AI Index Privacy Policy

1. Who we are

AI Index is a productivity tool that helps you discover, save, and copy prompts and AI tools directly from your browser’s side panel. This policy covers the AI Index Chrome extension and the companion web app available at this domain, both of which are operated by the AI Index team.

2. Information we collect

We collect the minimum information needed to run the service:

• Account data via Clerk. When you sign up or sign in, Clerk (our authentication provider) stores your email address, an authentication identifier, and any profile fields you choose to provide. If you sign in with Google, Clerk receives your Google profile name, email, and avatar.
• Usage data via Convex. Prompts you save, collections you create, tools you mark as favorites, and related metadata are stored in our Convex database and associated with your Clerk user ID.
• Optional site detection. When you click the AI Index toolbar icon, Chrome grants temporary access to the active tab through the activeTab permission. The extension reads the tab’s URL and uses its hostname locally to find a matching AI tool. The URL and hostname are not sent to our servers or saved as browsing history. If a tool matches, its catalog identifier is sent to Convex to load that tool’s details. Access is limited by Chrome’s activeTab rules.
• Operational logs. Standard server logs from Convex and our hosting providers may briefly record IP addresses and user-agent strings for security and debugging.

We do not read or change webpage contents, store a browsing history, or track visits across websites.

3. How we use your information

• Authenticate you and keep you signed in across sessions.
• Store and sync your saved prompts, collections, and preferences.
• Provide product support and fix bugs.
• Detect and prevent abuse or security issues.

We do not sell your data. We do not use your data for advertising profiling.

4. Third-party services

AI Index relies on the following subprocessors. Their own privacy policies apply to data they handle:

• Clerk — authentication and session management.
• Convex — application database and serverless functions.
• Vercel — hosting for the companion web app.
• Stripe — checkout and subscription management.
• Resend — weekly digest email delivery.
• Google Chrome Web Store — extension distribution and update delivery.

5. Limited Use

AI Index uses Chrome extension data only to provide or improve the extension’s single purpose: helping you find, save, and copy AI tools and prompts from a browser side panel. We do not sell extension data, use it for advertising profiling, or allow humans to read personal user data except where required for support, security, legal compliance, or internal aggregate operations. Our use of information received from Chrome APIs adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

6. Data retention

We keep your account data for as long as your account exists. If you delete your account, we delete your Clerk profile, saved prompts, and collections within 30 days, except where longer retention is required for security, legal, or billing purposes.

7. Your rights

Depending on where you live (including under the GDPR and CCPA), you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data, and to object to or restrict certain processing. To exercise these rights, email privacy@aitoolindex.io. We will respond within 30 days.

8. Children’s privacy

AI Index is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect data from them. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we will delete it.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be announced in the extension or by email. The “Last updated” date at the top always reflects the current version.
